IBM and Oracle are now the big dogs in Java middleware, and Microsoft's enterprise onslaught is generating double-digit .NET growth in a down economy. Game over, right? Not at all. All three vendors must overcome their inherent complexity and high costs of their suites in a market that increasingly rewards platforms with strong fit-to-purpose, high configurability, low costs.
